2019 National Geomagnet FGD Field Trip

Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Geomagnet Nasional 2019
December 30, 2019

To prepare for departure, participants gathered at the Rectorate Building. After that, go to location 1, namely Selong Belanak Beach. There participants can see and observe the geomagnetic anomaly area (Mount Magnet). The next trip is to location 2, namely Kuta Mandalika Beach and Beach/Tanjung Aan in the southern region of the island of Lombok which have the potential to be affected if a large earthquake occurs on Sumba Megathrust. After enjoying location 2, it's time for a prayer break at the Nurul Bilad Mandalika Mosque. After finishing, the group continued their journey to locations 3 and 4, namely the Lombok Geomagnetic Observatory (LOK) in Sengkol – Pujut and Sade Traditional Village – Pujut. LOK is Unram's flagship research facility. At LOK, a banquet has been prepared for lunch. The field trip participants had lunch while enjoying the scenery around LOK which is still a bit arid due to the long dry season. After eating, the participants visited several observatory locations there and some measured the magnetic content of the rocks with a magnetometer. The rocks from various places in Indonesia are available at the observatory as the LOK collection library. After lunch and visiting the Observatory, continue to the traditional village of the Sasak tribe, namely the Sade Traditional Village. In this village, the traditional houses and native culture of the local population are still very well preserved. Next, the last location is the Lombok souvenir shop at the Sasaku Mataram Gallery. Finally, the trip back to the University of Mataram.

The main thing on this field trip was the participation of Dr. Kusumita Arora as a representative from IAGA (International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy). With the presence of Dr. Arora as the keynote speaker in the FGD and participation in the field trip agenda, opens opportunities for research collaboration in the geomagnetic field towards a safe and sustainable life globally. The 2019 National Geomagnet FGD activity was organized by the Unram Faculty of Engineering with activity sponsors from DMII (Disaster Management Institute of Indonesia). DMII is an institution devoted to the development of knowledge and disaster management based on Total Disaster Management (TDM), which was formed by Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT). DMII is a reference center and all the knowledge and practical experience of Aksi Cepat Tanggap in managing disasters.
